Variations, Reservations & Contra-indications

  • High temperature/fever;
  • Acute infectious diseases / infectious, contagious skin disorders;
  • Inflammation;
  • Presence of an aneurysm, a localised dilation of a blood vessel, typically the artery in the temple or forehead, more likely in the elderly. (This should be noted at consultation.);
  • Thrombosis or embolus;
  • Cancers of the blood;
  • Septic conditions;
  • Surgery ~ if surgery is less than 6 months old & is above shoulder level;
  • Pregnancy ~ if considered to be at risk or unstable, normal pregnancy may be treated very lightly only after the first 3 months.

Obtain Doctor’s Advice:

  • Cancer
  • Psychosis
  • Medication

Conditions requiring caution:

  • Osteoporosis;
  • Chronic fatigue;
  • Frailty;
  • Spondylitis or Spondylosis in the neck.

Remember if in doubt or not satisfied with the clients medical history either get GP’s permission or do not treat!

After-Care Advice

  • Twenty four hours after treatment
  • Avoid stimulants e.g alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes etc.
  • Increase intake of water, herbal tea, pure fruit juice etc.
  • Eat a lighter diet;
  • Practice deep breathing exercise;
  • Do not partake in stress full work/exercise;

Long term advice

As a therapist, we are looking to improve the client’s general health by reducing stress levels & therefore it is important to offer advice for the longer term.

The short term aftercare is also advisable to continue & in addition some examples may be:

  • Regular exercise;
  • Practice self massage;
  • Relaxation ~ Yoga ~ Visualisation ~ Meditation;
  • Continue with complementary therapies e.g Indian head massage, aromatherapy, reflexology etc.
