Variations, Reservations & Contra~indications
- High temperature/fever;
- Acute infectious diseases / infectious, contagious skin disorders;
- Inflammation;
- Presence of an aneurysm, a localised dilation of a blood vessel, typically the artery in the temple or forehead, more likely in the elderly. (This should be noted at consultation.);
- Thrombosis or embolus;
- Cancers of the blood;
- Septic conditions;
- Surgery ~ if surgery is less than 6 months old & is above shoulder level;
- Pregnancy ~ if considered to be at risk or unstable, normal pregnancy may be treated very lightly only after the first 3 months.
Obtain Doctor’s Advice:
- Cancer
- Psychosis
- Medication
Conditions requiring caution:
- Osteoporosis;
- Chronic fatigue;
- Frailty;
- Spondylitis or Spondylosis in the neck.
Remember if in doubt or not satisfied with the clients medical history either get GP’s permission or do not treat!
After-Care Advice
- Twenty four hours after treatment
- Avoid stimulants e.g alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes etc.
- Increase intake of water, herbal tea, pure fruit juice etc.
- Eat a lighter diet;
- Practice deep breathing exercise;
- Do not partake in stress full work/exercise;
Long term advice
As a therapist, we are looking to improve the client’s general health by reducing stress levels & therefore it is important to offer advice for the longer term.
The short term aftercare is also advisable to continue & in addition some examples may be:
- Regular exercise;
- Practice self massage;
- Relaxation ~ Yoga ~ Visualisation ~ Meditation;
- Continue with complementary therapies e.g Indian head massage, aromatherapy, reflexology etc.
